Ten Places With Patios for Summer, For Dining or Just a Drink
It seems nearly every place has at least a table or two on the sidewalk these days (I’m looking at you Addy Sandwiches), or perhaps a parklet (Luc Lac has two - that’s on SW Second where all those people double parked while picking up food). But full size patios are a little harder to come across. Here are 10 places with a patio, in front, in back or on top.
Departure. SW 5th + Morrison. Fifteen floors atop the hotel, elegant dining and cocktails.
McMenamins Market Street Pub. SW 10th + Market. This pub is at the base of an apartment building on the Park Blocks. Large patio, shade trees too.
Mediterranean Exploration Society. NW 13th + Flanders. Founded by celebrated local chef John Gorham, now a Sesame Collective restaurant, it has the entire street space in front as a large patio.
Momo. SW 10th + Yamhill. Dark little dive-ish bar with a lively patio in back.
Society Hotel. NW 3rd + Davis. Limited menu, might be the patio you go for breakfast. They have cocktails too.
Ten Barrel. NW Flanders + 14th. They proclaim themselves “The Rooftop Party in the Pearl.” Pub food and of course lots of beer.
Tope. NW 4th and Burnside. Terrific tacos high above the city. This taco bar was created by the folks who own popular Italian spot Ava Gene’s.
Von Ebert. NW 13th + Davis. Nice outdoor space with a menu that is a bit more ambitious than most brewpubs.
Xport. SW 2nd + Jefferson. Rooftop is big, menu is small. Go for the cocktails and the view.
Zags. SW Sixth + Columbia. Food doesn’t get raves but the patio is lovely, with fire pits for the cool weather. This patio was a favorite of mine when it was owned by chef Dave Machado, a part of his now closed (covid) Nel Centro.
